August 25, 2017, Bloomington, Indiana -- It was a night filled with fireworks and excitement, and it seemed that there were as many pyrotechnics on the racing oval as there were in the evening sky. After Ashmore, Illinois’ Danny Schwartz hustled from sixth starting slot to claim the Summit American Modified Series main event, Josh Divine won the Davis Automotive Super Stock feature, Tyler Neal captured the Pure Stock event, and Trent Adams took the Hornet feature.

At the start of the 40-lap modified event, Will Krup took the early lead from pole starter Tim Prince. Jacoby Hines quickly raced from fourth to second on the second circuit, and began to close on Krup. However, on a fifth lap restart, Tait Davenport attempted to split the leaders, but made contact with Hines, putting him out of the race with a flat left front tire. Schwartz took second from Davenport on the eighth lap, and grabbed the lead from Krup on a lap 16 restart.

Working smoothly through slower traffic, Schwartz held a four-second lead over Jeff Deckard at the finish. Bradley Sterrett finished third, followed by Davenport, who slipped from second to fourth on the final lap. Heat races were won by Prince, Hines, Davenport and Krup. The two B mains were won by Matt Tiller and Blaze Melton.

Starting outside the front row, Josh Divine battled Steve Hollars for four laps in the super stock main event before getting around him in turn 2. Five laps later, Jason Hehman, also worked his way past Hollars. Although Hehman chased Divine through lapped traffic, he wasn’t able to mount a serious challenge. Once clear of backmarkers, Divine put eight car lengths between himself and Hehman as he notched his second Bloomington victory of the season. Steve Peeden and Hehman took heat race victories.

Two racing incidents brought red flags before the pure stocks / bombers were able to complete a lap. However, once they got going, the racing was intense. Jeremy Huebner and Tyler Neal ran six compete laps side-by-side, neither able to gain an advantage, until Neal was able to nose ahead off turn 2. After starting seventh, Neal scored the victory over Huebner, as Jeff Beggs and CJ Bryan and Zachary Stalker finished in the top five.

For the first four laps of the Hornet main, Donnie Modesty and Trent Adams raced side-by-side, wheel-to-wheel, until a caution slowed the field. Adams nosed ahead on the restart, and with a clear track ahead, built a 3/4-lap lead by the checkers. Modesty finished second, trailed by Owen Cosman, Josh Casse and Daniel Hobbs.
